Russian online cinemas resume dialogue with Hollywood
February 19th. /MEDIA TALK/. Major Russian online platforms such as Okko and Kinopoisk have resumed negotiations with Hollywood film companies on the return of their content and access to new releases.

According to RBC, Okko has started negotiations with the majors, who previously refused to cooperate, which indicates a possible change in their position. However, the timing of the content's return remains uncertain due to the political situation.

Kinopoisk also confirmed that it is discussing receiving new products from the Lionsgate studio, known for the Hunger Games film series. The main obstacles to resuming cooperation are financial difficulties and economic constraints.

In March 2022, leading Hollywood studios suspended their operations in Russia, terminating contracts with online cinemas. By the end of 2022, the platforms faced negative dynamics in the volume of content, which they compensated for by purchasing Korean and Indian films, as well as creating their own projects.

We recently reported that one of the five Russian films that received state funding in 2024 was able to recover costs or earn money at the box office.
