Russians are having trouble buying new dollars
February 24th. /MEDIA TALK/. Russian banks do not have enough dollar bills issued after 2013, RIA Novosti reports.

Representatives of Sberbank, Gazprombank, Rosselkhoznadzor and other financial institutions stated that "new" banknotes are not always available in branches. The old U.S. banknotes remain in circulation, however, additional fees may be charged upon exchange.

Since the fall of 2024, Russians traveling outside the country have faced problems exchanging old dollar bills. According to the agency, in the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, only new American banknotes are accepted, whereas in some countries of Southeast Asia, old dollars are exchanged at a significantly reduced exchange rate.

Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the Duma Committee on Financial Markets, told RIA Novosti that neither the Government nor the Central Bank has the right to influence banks on the issue of turnover of obsolete American banknotes, and their owners are responsible for difficulties with the exchange.
